second time unintentionally by the justice system.

story.

"Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes."

-Maggie Kuhn

"I am a 29-year old college student. My best friend, the [offender] who I thought of as my protective older brother, assaulted me while drunk.

(Preface: Four weeks prior to this, he raped me when he was drunk.)

He pinned me to the ground and wouldn’t let me go. Even though I yelled, screamed, spit in his face and bit him. He tried to kiss me, but I wouldn’t let him. He then pushed me onto the ground onto a piece of shattered glass (he was remodeling his house at the time) and he only let me leave because it gashed my hand so bad that I was bleeding everywhere and I started to cry.
I don't know what to do."

Sexual Assault - August 29th

When a crime is committed we need to ask not only:

"What laws were broken and how are we going to punish the offender?"

Language
Change

"What harm was done and who is responsible for repairing that harm?"

Just shifting the language, an offender’s accountability is realized much faster, and the needs of victims are elevated and addressed first, not as a secondary thought. There are many nationwide and Oklahoma-specific resources available to victims.
